Adobe started as a company in the early 1980s and still operates today from San Jose, California, USA with worldwide employees totalling over 6,000. The company was named after Adobe Creek (which ran behind the property of one of the founders) in Los Altos, California. Adobe develop and acquire software applications primarily for the graphic design and publishing industry. Major acquisitions by Adobe in their growth in the industry include; Aldus in 1994 (Freehand and Pagemaker), GoLive in 1999 and recently Macromedia (Dreamweaver, Flash, Flex, Confusion and more..) in 2005. Adobe flagship products include; Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and the Acrobat family of products, many of which are considered the industry standard by design professionals.
