Demoware is demonstation software. It refers to software that is released for free by the developer to allow users to try it out to see if they like it before they buy. In most cases the demoware has limited functionality so that the user is teased into wanting to buy it by seeing what it can do but not being able to fully utilize it. Some examples include a conversion software that only converts part of a file, or an image creation software that watermarks all images with text, such as Created with Demo XYZ), etc. Usually, once the buyer purchases the software, a key is given the fully activates the demoware into a fully functional copy.
