What is Firewire?

FireWire is the name of a communication method, similiar to USB, but still different. The main difference to USB is, that FireWire is a lot faster, at least then USB 1.0. FireWire was developed by Apple Inc., where it also got it s name from: Originally it is just the IEEE 1394 Interface. There are different types of Firewire: Firewire 400 has got a transfer rate of approximately 400mbits, whereas Firewire 800 has one of 800mbits.
