Floppies refers to a group of floppy discs. Floppy discs are small , flat, square in shape, re-writeable media that was used as the standard removable storage for personal computers. As they became popular as the removable storage of choice they became mass produced and very cheap. The outer square part of the disc is made of fairly durable plastic and the inner disc is made of very thin clear plastic coated in a metal oxide that was used to store magnetic data from the computer via the floppy disc drive. Size and storage improved over time for floppy discs. However, now days some personal computer don t even come with a floppy disc drive as the portable USB memory stick drives have become the removable storage of choice, partly due to their massive storage abilities and the comparative price. |
