A forum is a web application that offers an online messaging system based around a theme. This provides the opportunity for like minded users or those researching things relating to the theme of the forum to come together and exchange (discuss) information (usually) in a text message format. Forums usually require a user to join (create a login identity) and are then usually authenticated through their email address. Forums can be very simply or extravagantly elaborate, including; tracking message responses via email; points or rewards for more post or for answering posts in the best accepted way, including multimedia objects (such as sound or video) and inter user private messaging to name a few. To keep the messages easy to navigate they are stored in a threaded way to make it easier for those reading and replying.
