Graphic Interchange Format (GIF) is a format for saving images on the hard disk. GIFs, unlike other formats, have got the ability to save also sequences of images (e.gg. little videos). That s called an animated GIF. GIFs only support up to 256 colors for each frame. GIFs are compressed using the LZW data compression. They were introduced 1987 by CompuServe.
