What is LED?

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. These are basically miniature light globes which are operated by electrons in motion in a semi-conductor substance. Advantages of LED s are that they tend to last for a long time, don t produce much heat, create substantial light for their size (especially super bright LED s) and are easily incorporated in a range of electronic environments. They are also able to easily be created in a range of colours, which adds to their versatility. Some places you might find LED s are key lights, torches, watch lights, clock numbers, various indicator lights on all kinds of electrical equipment (including computer keyboards, mouses and boxes) and transmitting information on remote controls. They are excellent as chaser and flashing lights in various Christmas, (and other) decorations, such as rope lights. Recent uses also include the replacement of incandescent globes in traffic lights, motor vehicle tail lights and internal vehicle lights.
