An Operating System (OS)
is the software
that a computer runs on. The computer is dependent on this
software,
because it allows the computer to function. The
Operating System is used to do basic tasks such as recognizing input from
devices (i.e.
keyboard,
mouse) and to send the output information (i.e.
monitor,
printer, speakers) and also keeping track of files and directories. Some common
operating systems are
Windows,
MacOS, and Linux.
