Software is term given to computer programs developed for a specific purpose. Software is developed by programmers in any of a number of programming languages and is generally compiled into machine readable code for one or more operating systems, this resulting code is software. Software is generally designed to run on one specific platform (operating system). Software can be made freely available or may be commercial (pay for) or any variation in between. Software is the code that runs on a computer, as opposed to hardware which is physical devices that can connect to, or work with, your computer.
