Sysop (System Operator) was a term often used to describe the person that runs a bulletin board (BBS) or online Forum. They are responsible for the daily maintenance of the board, whatever that may entail. Functions can include; approving new members, checking new messages, doing backups, installing or making updates and data optimisations of the data store of the board. Now days the person performing this function (and other responsibilities such as entire file or web servers) may be referred to as a System Administrator (SysAdmin).
