Virus is the term given to software or a script that runs on your computer that is designed to run without your knowledge with the purpose of replicating itself through a network (and in previous years through sharing floppy discs). A virus will often do this through your email account or spread via one or more websites. Viruses can also be set to cause damage to your computer and or take over you computer for fraudulent activity or for use in a distributed denial of service (DDOS) attack on another network entity. The way to stop the spread of viral software is by using anti virus software, of which there are both free and commercial providers. However, you must make sure that the anti virus software that you choose to use is well known and popular as some viruses can spread through fake anti virus software itself. |
