What is Web 2.0?

The specific definition of the term Web 2.0 is very much up for debate. However, the term is generally used to refer to a perceived turning point in the function of the world wide web (from how it was to how it is) and the types of online services being offered, how they are offered and the software piping that pieces all of that together and even the way that information is presented. It encapsulates the movement from a mostly static and one way web to a more interactive and collaborative and service oriented web. Some of the technologies considered in Web 2.0 include; AJAX, tagging, blogging, decentralisation, user generated and collaborative content, social networking and XML. In general Web 2.0 sees the world wide web become more a software, application and service platform in itself.
