What is Windows?

Windows refers to graphical on screen representations of windows that you look into to see your work or organizational structure of files or other visual representations. In terms of operating systems and interfaces, Windows generally refers to the Microsoft Windows operating system developed by Microsoft, USA. Originally only graphical in terms of ASCII and ANSI, Microsoft Windows later went on to use a more fully graphic user interface (GUI) when it developed Microsoft Windows 95. Microsoft has slowly released new versions of Windows over the years with products such as; Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista. The Microsoft Windows operating system is also available in server form, with products such as; Windows NT, Windows Server 2000 and Windows Server 2003 as well as other more specialized servers. Windows have also been present on other operating systems and as presentation layers with other interfaces, however these are not related to Microsoft. The current main operating system competitors to Microsoft Windows include; Apple MacOS, Linux (variants) and UNIX. In reference to webmasters, windows mean the Microsoft Windows operating system and the web browsers that run on it.
