XP is generally used as a moniker to describe applications that are developed to work with Microsoft Windows XP. An Example of this is Microsoft Word XP. Windows XP is Microsoft's 5th fully graphic user interface (GUI) Windows operating system and was developed as a more consumer/user friendly operating system after Windows 2000. The most recent version, Microsoft Windows XP Service pack 2, was replaced by the newer Microsoft operating system, Microsoft Windows Vista.
