Stands for Year 2000. Leading up to the year 2000 there was a lot of fear that a computer system would crash at midnight. A lot of computer programmes only used the last two digits to indicate the year. A lot of computer programmes would see the year 2000 as 1900, causing all kinds of problems in computer systems.

A huge programme to fix all this code resolved most of there were no major incidents when to world moved into the year 2000.
