A benchmark in the Webmaster s World generally refers to measuring the performance of an application, for instance a webserver, in certain, self-created, difficult scenarios.
One sample: The Webmaster wants to make sure, that his server will transport all emails, even if there is a traffic increase of 200%. So he will use two programs: One to measure the transfer rate of the emails, and one to simulate an increase of traffic.
