About Me

Who are you?

My name is Emco, I am a student living in London. I'm originally from Belgium where I obtained a Masters in Computer Science.

What experience do you have as a webmaster?

I have been involved in setting up websites for the last 5 years. With my latest website I am earning $3000 with Adsense with about 9000 unique visitors / 50.000 pageviews a day.

$3000/month? Prove it!

Here's a screenshot of my May earnings.
Adsense May

If you are that good, why don't you set up another site. 10x$3000 would be $30k a month.

Anybody that has suceeded in setting up a successful site from scratch without a big budget knows it takes a lot of time and energy or a lot of luck. By joining our energy we should be able to achieve better results faster. Together we can have access to premium tools and programmes that are otherwise only available to large organisations.

Money

Am I guarantueed any money?

No, this is not a get rich quick scheme. This is all about pooling our energy and talent to 'play in the major league'. However if we are successful and you have added value, you will be rewarded for that. .

Who will pay for the startup? (hosting, domain, etc.)

I will - otherwise we will never get it up and running

Do I need to pay anything to sign up?

Nope - It is completely free. All we ask is you follow the rules.

How will I get paid?

We will start off with paypal.

How will you make money?

Just as everybody else. By contributing to the site I will earn credits and I will get my share of the money based on the credits I earned over the last 12 months.

What % do you get?

0% - I just get paid based on my contribution as everybody else

Is there a minimum payout?

yes - $50, to keep the admin to a minimum

I have added value to the site by doing (fill in) - will I get paid?

If you add real value - I promise you will be rewarded for it. If do something that does not fit in any of the reward categories we have defined, let us know and we will find a fair way of rewarding you.

What about tax and stuff?

Once there is enough income I will set up an official company that I will use to pay everybody out. It is relatively easy and inexpensive in the UK.

Trust

What's in it for you?

I'm quite excited about the prospect of making this work, about getting people together from all over the world and about changing the way people work together and do business online. If you think about it, if we pull this off the opportunties are limitless

How can we check up on you?

I'm open to suggestions. I would like to be as open as possible without overstepping any rules from for example Google. I was thinking about using the Analytics email function to share the traffic information with everybody. I am also open to organise a quarterly audit so that one randomy selected or elected member can check the accounts. I like trust, but I guess control is better ;-)

Why do you not share your current site?

I'm Google paranoid. I got banned once because somebody got upset with me on a forum and clickbombed me. Google reinstated me but as Adsense is currently my only income as a student, it is too important for me to loose.

What if you defraud us?

If I'm a con, it will come out quickly. You and everybody else will leave the project, leaving me an empty worthless community. If I cheat, this whole project will collapse quickly so it would be plain stupid.

I read everything, but I still don't trust it.
If you have any particular question and you would like more clarification, please send me an email. Otherwise I guess there is nothing else I can tell you. You can always join, it is for free and you can judge it for yourself . What do you have to lose?

Membership

I am from (fill in your country), can I join?

Of course, everybody can join. However the initial sites will use English as the main language.

How can I help?

You can help right now by signing up, so we hit our minimum target of 50 signups in 4 weeksto go ahead with this. Once we are live you will have a ton of activities to choose from. All of them will earn you credits and credits mean money.

I would love to join, but I don't know anything about …

Even if you have no technical skills, no SEO skills and can't help us generate any content, you still have one valuable resource: time. Besides, you are going to be part of a community with lots of experts and you will learn a lot quickly.

I'd love to join, but I don't have a lot of time

This is not a full time job. Even if you can only spend 5 minutes a week, you will still earn credits and money for the work you have done.

I'm under 18 can I join?
I guess you need to ask you parents for permissions.
I have my own site, can I still join?

Of course, If you are a webmaster I'm sure you have some good experience and skills to share with us.

Why would I share my skills with the community if I can set up a site myself

Good question. This touches on the fundamental idea behind this project. I am convinced that you will be able to achieve more as a team than on your own. Having built sites myself I know how much work it is to start something from scratch without a budget. It can take years to get a decent result. How many of us have spent hours setting up a website, creating content etc. just to find out in frustration that all the hard work has not resulted in any visitors or revenue.
However if you use the same energy to make content in this project, it will generate revenue and visitors as somebody else has for example worked hard on building links or spreading the word.
Finally nobody forbids you to still persue your own projects as well.

The Rules

When can the rules be changed?

The rules can be changed at any time. When we are successful there will always be a small amount of people who will try to cheat. I want to make sure we can change the rules to avoid this at any point, without getting sued.

Who can change the rules?

Anybody can propose new rules or changes to the rules. I will try to use democracy as much as possible for rule changes, but I reserve the right to change them myself. Again this to avoid fraud and lawsuits.

I don't like the rules, how can I change them?

Send us an email with what you don't like and propose something better. If it makes sense we will incorporate your suggestion.

Is this legal?

Yes, and some of my friends who are lawyers are providing legal support. If you think you have found something that we overlooked, please let us know and I will ask some lawyers to review it.

Who makes the rules?
I drafted up the initial ones, but the rules are made by the community. If you want to change something, provide us with a suggestion
What if I break the rules?

A project like this can only be successful if everybody follows the rules. Until we have approved some more detailed rules on this, any breach will be looked at individually.

Web 3.0

Why do you call it web 3.0?

Wikipedia defines web 3.0 as "Web 3.0 is a term that has been coined with different meanings to describe the evolution of Web usage and interaction along several separate paths". To me an online community that sets up a business together, that is a new evolution of web usage and that's why I call it web 3.0. I'm sure that some people will disagree and some will agree. Once we are live, I'm sure we will be able to discuss it at large.

This is not web 3.0!

I disagree, but feel free to send me your thoughts.

Is this not online communism?

Smile. Wikipedia defines communism as "Communism is an ideology that seeks to establish a classless, stateless social organization". The fact that we will distribute the profit based on the credits you have earned means it is not classles and not stateless.

I like myspacel, digg etc. What is wrong with web 2.0

I like them as well and there is nothing wrong with them. I have a huge amount of respect for the people that had the vision and the energy to build a valuable industry from scratch often at their own expense and by taking substantial risk. And these sites are here to stay. However as things evolve, I'm convinced it is time to take the next step.

www.webmastervocab.com

Why such a boring site to start off with?

I like quick results. This site is easy to set up and easy to create content for. If we can pull this off, we can try more difficult, more complicated and more lucrative projects. Instead of wasting everybodies time trying to get a difficult project of the ground, let's start easy and see if we can get some results quickly.

Who will own the domain name?

I will.

Is this not the same as Wikipedia?

Nope. The goal of wikipedia is to collect information. Our goal is to make money.

I have an idea about another site, can we do that one instead?

I would love to expand this to lots of other sites. The one thing we need to proof first is that the concept works. Once we prove it works we will expand it and start other sites. However you can always send me an email with your idea or wait until we have an online system to collect and prioritise ideas.

Why does the site looks so amateuristic?

Time is prescious and I didn’t want to waste a lot of time until I knew the concept works. If I can't convince 50 people to sign up in 4 weeks, this project will end and I would have wasted a huge amount of time on layout. Once we have 50 people, I will spend some time trying to pull a proper prototype together.
